Mission #10 - June 26, 1943

         Le Mans, France

Early today combat crews formed up on the ramp where General Fred Anderson awarded decorations.  There were Purple Hearts for those who had been wounded and Air Medals for those who had flown the required number of missions.

But immediately after this, some crews were briefed at 1310 and took off at 1515 for the Gnome/Rhone Luftwaffe Airfield at LeMans.  Heavy clouds again thwarted the Wing over the French coast.  Some of our attackers turned right at the Bay of Seine.  Others made the landfall of France, but in the end, the attempt was abandoned.  All returned safely.

On the 27th, Major William Ready was awarded the Silver Star for leading the Wing on the 22nd to the synthetic rubber works at Huls.
