Mission #23 - September 2, 1943

         St. Mardyck, France

Overcast hid the primary target, the Denian/Prouvy airfield in France.  Therefore, the wing, led by the 96th, made a run on the secondary, an airfield near Valenciennes.  However, due to a malfunction in the bomb racks of the lead aircraft, no bombs were dropped here either.  Turning toward the French coast the wing sighted the airfield at St. Mardyck.  Bombs were dropped with good results although two aircrews suffered flak wounds.

On September 5th, Adolphe Menjou's USO Show entertained.  After his show, he relaxes in a 96th poker game.
